artists shouldn’t have to ~prove~ anything about how grateful they are, especially because they’re not doing exactly what you want them to do

Not to mention some artists are just incredibly shy people, even online.

Yo I don’t reply to shit. I never have anything interesting to say, and I’m not funny, and I assume people are tired of hearing “thanx” on dA.

I am bad at replying to comments most of the time because I fail to figure out a way to reply or there’s really no way to even reply? I take favorites more seriously than I ever will comments, on DA. Sometimes I get a really nice comment though and I leave it in my inbox for days staring at it and feeling bad because I really want to reply but I am really awkward and stupid at taking compliments and nice words from others (same with you, tumblr asks.)I’ll always thank people for favoriting my art, and I will go to their page, check out their stuff, give’em a llama badge, and possibly fave some of their works. If they wish not to be thanked and their “DO NOT THANK” sign isn’t buried under 5000 obnoxious stamps and animated gifs, I won’t thank them. I’ll also know who’s page I’ve been to before, so I won’t spam them with thank yous.I don’t understand what people want their page comments to be, because they kind of serve no real  purpose, since you could just comment on their art, their actual gallery (90% of people don’t even know you can do that) or note them. I will give you a simple thank you, I will not be one of those people leaving a plethora of PLZaccounts that stretch your page to infinity to garner attention to their own page, or just outright say “hey thanks COME LOOK AT MY ART.” Right now I’m sitting at around 400 favorites, I could simply clear them all or go to everyones page and thank them, funny thing is that neither is a winning move. I’ll still continue to do what I do, until I am getting 1000 faves a day, at which point I’ll prolly have to give up, but that’ll never happen I’m pretty sure. Even though DA still seems like a cesspool it’s still one of the best art networking sites. While I wish I could watch or follow everyone back, I imagine I’d never manage to get anything done, and the friends I have would be buried in floods that would take hours to go through and stay caught up with. I already watch a few people who obnoxiously make a new journal linking a shitty youtube video or poll about streaming every 30 minutes.I’ve already ranted in the past about the trouble of befriending others as an artist because eventually you end up getting a few butthurt selfish snobs who want to use you for free art or “fame” at every opportunity they can. The fact this person complains about artists not participating in any fandom forums is an indication that  all they care about is the artist producing more fanart to fufill their own selfish thirst. Now excuse me while I go crawl back into my hole  (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

(in response to the photo, not rick.) People still think like this..? I really can’t think of anything nice to say… it’s too much. The moment I see anyone who reads WAY too much into other artists like this can’t be taken seriously from that point on.

I’ve spent my entire life drawing and improving for MY OWN PERSONAL GAIN and if I draw fan art it’s likely for ME. Even if it’s to get more attention to my art, it’s not so people bulk fav my fanart, it’s so more people are exposed to my original art. I get tons of watchers that way and I’m hoping it’s not because they’re waiting for me to draw their favorite pokemon. I didn’t work this hard just so I could work harder to make you feel better when you say “lol” or “cool” to my art. We’re not here to serve you, fucking selfish asshole.
Also, is it that hard to wrap your head around the idea that good artists like being surrounded by mostly other good artists? Not to say I don’t love all my watchers, I do, but I’m more likely to talk to someone who can teach me something instead of someone who’s just going to stroke my ego and that’s more obvious when artists post art I can learn form.
I drew MLP stuff not long ago and I got comments and favs every day, I didn’t have the time or bandwidth to thank for all the favs and I didn’t care to comment back on every comment I got that just said “lol” or “cool”.

You know, to be honest, this is pretty, and I get it that that’s the point, but it kind of makes me mad.

I mean… why does Ursula have to be so thin for her to qualify as prettied up? Why do all the males have to be so young? Especially Hook, who’s whole gig is being old, and jealous of Peter’s youth. Maybe I’m missing something here, but I just find this a little stupid. Pretty, but stupid.

Why would you ruin Hades by making him all gay pretty instead of fucked up looking? Gerald Scarfe had it right the first time :C

Also fuck them for thinking Ursula needed to be skinny with long hair to be pretty.

It’s a student film err’body keep that in mind. I THOUGHT IT WAS PRETTY GREAT.

oh god this is actually super cute LOL

This is everything I’ve ever wanted.

“THE PICTURES… ON THE INTERNET.”

I guess I’m the odd-one-out who’s still wary of the furry fandom after watching this?

lol this didn’t help

I don’t think it was supposed to. Like, nothing about this points to “now, you should think furries are harmless”. But maybe because I already acknowledge that there are different levels of ‘furry’, am acquainted with a ton of furries, and like being told things I already know. “HAHA they do totally do that.”

This film is actually just great because it’s so much more accurate than most caricatures of furries that I’ve seen. Or at least seemingly unbiased. You got your weird-sad-but-normal dudes, the people who see it as a lifestyle, people who actually say ‘fursecution’, the artists who can’t frickin’ draw anything but wolves oh my god my favorite

Sorry to cut you off Marissa,

Anyway, I thought this was a really sweet and cute way to look at it all, so repost it is.

101 Projects for Artists and Illustrators

dredsina:

(From http://danidraws.com/)

Don’t know what to do with your extra time? There are plenty of odd jobs and tasks that an illustrator can do in between assignments. If you’re looking for some inspiration, here’s a long list of projects, ideas, and necessary chores to help make your free time more productive.

Tell a Story

Many images are used to help a narrative, and as an illustrator it is important to keep developing this skill in your off-time.

  1. Make a book cover for your favorite classic novel.
  2. Create a series of illustrations that show the passage of time.
  3. Illustrate a song.

Putting this here so I don’t forget it

Tangled concept art, by Glen Keane

Flynn from Tangled was going to be huge and Stabbington-sized, in comparison to Rapunzel, to make the relationship seem “accepting”, so Rapunzel would seem less shallow.

As if to teach a lesson that not ALL 16th century urchin thieves (half the populace) were rapists and murderers; general scary mean guys, despite their intimidating looks.

Then, to appeal more to the target audience of female teens and little girls, they made him Prince Charming with a personality, so you know he’s ‘good and pretty’, and there wouldn’t be a societal issue in pairing a 25+ year old ex-con with someone the size of a 14 year old.

The panel of women who decided what makes a man attractive had the ideal of a man who looks like this, with a constant Dreamworks face, thus the ‘handsome’ Flynn was born, and the lovable giant Bastion was scrapped.

Are you telling me… That I was just a focus group away from caring about this movie.

This is so much cooler than the shitty Flynn the ended up with. Even the scrawny squirrely one in the credits would have been way better than the airbrushed garbage they put out there.
